Item: War of 1861 Identification Tag & Records - Private Samuel Rockey
Construction: Cast Brass
Approximate size: 27.5 mm or 1.08 inch diameter.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. No bends, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Comments: Stamped in the tag is the following: "S. ROCKEY / CO. E.  49th  REG.  PA.  VOLS. / JACKSONVILLE."  Accompanying the tag will be records of Samuel Rockey acquired in 1997 from the National Archives. (See additional images). According to one of the documents included in these records, "Samuel Rockey was enrolled on the 14th day of August, 1861, at Jacksonville, PA in Co. "E", 49th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a private on the 24th day of October, 1861, at Camp Griffin, Va, in Co. "E", 49th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. "E" of that Regiment, for the months of September & October, 1862, he is reported "Died" - no further record on file." This identification tag will be an excellent addition to any Civil War relic collection.
