Item: Federal "Jeff Davis" Hat Insignia
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass.
Condition: Fair, excavated, attachment loops missing. The brass has a brown patina. The lower portion of the device is missing parts of the olive branch as well as the upper portion of the arrows held by the eagle's left talons. These areas appear to have been intentionally cut away. Also missing is a section of the upper right rim. The rear has two distinct upper and lower solder areas where the attachment loops were once attached. A very minor pinhole and an approximate one-eight inch fracture are visible if held up to a light however these defects do not affect its structural integrity. The device has not been repaired.
Approximate size: 1-13/16 x 2-7/8 inch.
