Backmark: "* & * STEELE * & * / JOHNSON" dm
Construction: Highly convex, three-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, shank missing. Ample gilt remains. No pushes, cracks, repairs, or other breaks.
Recovered: March 25, 1982 in the area of Spotsylvania Court House, VA
Reference: Tice: NY220O1 Albert: NY 30
Comments: Included in the additional images of the button is an image of the digger's index card indicating, in most cases, the button's identification, assessment of condition, recovery date & location and other general information. An image of this card will be included with the button. In the unlikely event where there are discrepancies between the digger's description and Virginia Relic's description, Virginia Relic's description shall be deemed correct.  This button was acquired directly from the digger's family and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
