Nine Pre-Civil War Militia Cuff Buttons

Item: Nine Pre-Civil War Militia Cuff Buttons
Backmark: Blank
Construction: Flat, two-piece.
Approximate size: 13.5 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, all have secure shank present. All display an eagle facing right with a shield below its left wing.  A couple of the buttons have traces of silver still remaining and two or three still have small bit of thread remaining in the shank eyelets. There are no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Along Herring Creek, Charles City County, VA.  Herring Creek borders Harrison's Landing, VA along the James River where General George McClellan camped during the summer of 1862 after the battle of Malvern Hill.
Comments: These handsome militia buttons will display very nicely in the included display case.Since all nine buttons were recovered from the same site, I have decided to sell them as a group in an effort to keep them together. Included in the additional images of these relics is an image of the digger's index card indicating, in most cases, the relic's identification, assessment of condition, recovery date & location, and other general information. In cases where there are discrepancies between the digger's description and Virginia Relic's description, Virginia Relic's description shall be deemed correct. These relics were acquired directly from the immediate family of the now deceased digger who hunted Civil War trails, campsites, and battle sites throughout central Virginia and adjacent states for several decades. The display case will be included. These buttons will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
