Comments: According to the button reference book "Uniform Buttons Of The United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, the 17 mm size is "exceptionally scarce" and "may have been used by the affluent 6th North Carolina Regiment". Though not recommended, it is likely that additional gilt may be brought out with proper cleaning. This relic was acquired directly from the digger, Robert Braswell, Jr. of Gaston, NC., who recovered many fine relics from both North Carolina and Virginia over several decades. Learn more about Robert and his relic detecting by clicking on his name above. This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
