Chain - Broadway Landing, VA

SOLD

This excavated section of chain measures approximately 21-1/2 inches in overall length and weighs nearly 1-1/2 pounds.  Ten of its eleven links are approximately 1-7/8 x 2-1/2 inches with its larger connecting link measuring approximately 2 x 3-3/4 inches. According to its old faded tag, this iron chain was recovered from Broadway Landing, VA and is from a pontoon boat. The links have an old thin layer of clear coat and show deterioration of varying degrees but are still in solid condition. The larger connecting link was designed to allow chain sections to be connected or disconnected. During the Civil War Broadway Landing was a major supply depot for the Union army at Petersburg, Va. See additional images of Broadway Landing by clicking the above link. This chain will be an excellent relic to display in any Civil War relic collection.
