Item: Pre-Civil War Artillery 1st Regiment Coat Button
Backmark: "ARMITAGE / BEST / QUALITY / PHILa"
Construction: Low convex, one-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Fair, excavated, shank missing. The front is worn with traces of gilt. The rear has ample gilt. Overall, the button has no bends, cracks, or repairs.
Recovered: Fairfax County, VA
Reference: Albert: AY 17
Comments: This early artillery button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
