Allen Single Shot Pistol Bullet Mold and Barrel Wrench

SOLD

This excavated Allen single shot pistol bullet mold and barrel wrench was acquired directly from the digger, Robert Braswell, Jr. of Gaston, NC., who recovered it in the area of Peebles' Farm, Dinwiddie County, VA. This mold would not only produce two small lead shot, but its circular handle would act as a gun barrel wrench. The device measures approximately 1-7/16 inches in width at handle and 3-7/8 inches in overall length. It is constructed of iron which is in good solid condition. It is fixed in the closed position and has a light layer of clear coat to prevent further deterioration. These molds were also used with Bacon, Manhattan, and similar single shot pistols. An example of the same type mold is pictured in "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War Supplement I" by Stanley S. Phillips on page 96 as item 5. This page is included in the additional images. Robert Braswell Jr. recovered many fine relics from both North Carolina and Virginia over several decades. Learn more about Robert and his relic detecting by clicking on his name above. This single shot pistol bullet mold and barrel wrench will be an excellent addition to any Civil War firearm or general relic collection.
