Reconstructed Shot Gun Load

SOLD

Item: Reconstructed Shot Gun Load
Caliber: .69
Condition: Good, excavated. Fifteen buck shot with dirty grey-white patinas and reassembled with epoxy.
Recovered: Recovered and reconstructed by Brant Arnold along the retreat route from the Battle of Shiloh, TN.
Approximate size: .66 x 1.31 inches. Weight: 567.8 grains.
Reference: A complete cartridge can be found in the following Civil War relic reference book:

  • "Round Ball to Rimfire, Part One" by Dean S. Thomas, on page 115, #115.

See a scan of the above page in the additional images.

Comments: It took time and a bit of skill to reassemble this group of buck shot to form what would have been originally encased in a paper cartridge. This is an excellent opportunity to add an example of rarely encountered shotgun load addition to any excavated Civil War projectile or general relic collection. Display case is included.
