Design: South Carolina state seal of a palm tree with fronds and fruit, bound spears, oak log and latin state motto all on a line field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, shank missing. Brown surface patina with ample gilt primarily in the area of the state motto. There is a mild push to the upper center front. There are no cracks or repairs.
Recovered: Urbanna, VA area.
Reference: Tice: SC248A18 Albert: SC 13
Comments: The motto, "ANIMIS OPIBUSQUE PARATI", translates to "Prepared In Mind And Resources". This button will display quite nicely and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
