This pattern 1864 State of New York militia cartridge box is in very good condition and is complete with "SNY" plate and both tins. The leather is in great shape with minimal crazing. The inside flap is marked with the manufacturer's stamp of "Baker & McKenney N-Y". There is also the letter "W" stamped below the bottom edge of the inner flap which may be an inspector's mark. The plate is in very good condition, has both attachment hooks, and is attached by a thin strip of leather which is likely a replacement. The letters "SNY" on the plate are the "broad letter" style, an example of which can be found as plate 548 on page 337 of O'Donnell and Campbell's "American Military Belt Plates", 2nd edition. The overall measurements of the box (excluding exterior flap) are approximately 7 x 6 x 1-3/4 inches. There are no repairs and this cartridge box will be an excellent addition to any Civil war accoutrement or general relic collection.
