Twenty Five Cents Fractional Currency - 1874

This original Twenty Five Cents Fractional Currency is in good condition and is dated 1874. It was engraved and printed at the Bureau, Engraving and Printing. The note was issued with an image of Robert J. Walker pictured on the front left. The text printed on the front of the note is: " United States – Series of 1874 – Twenty Five 25 Cents – Fractional Currency – Robt J Walker – Secy Treasy 1845 – Engraved & Printed At The Bureau, Engraving & Printing – Register – Treasurer". The rear, shows a large "25 cents" along with "This Note is Exchangeable for United States Notes By Assistant Treasurers And Designated Depositories Of The United States in the sums not less than Three Dollars. Receivable In Payment Of All Dues To The United States Less Than Five Dollars Except Customs. – Columbian Bank Note Co. Washington, D.C. – Patented July 24 1866 – Act of March 3d 1863". The paper is fairly crisp and has good coloring. There are two pinholes and a center vertical crease with a small tear at its top. This handsome note will come in a clear acid free envelope for preservation and display and will be an excellent addition to any post-Civil War note or general relic collection.
