Two US Belt Waist Buckle Skins

SOLD

This display includes two excavated US belt buckle sheet brass fronts or "skins", both of which, are in rough relic condition. According to their accompanying labels, as supplied by the digger, one was "excavated from site of old "star", Gloucester Point, VA."  and the other "excavated from site of CSA trench, Gen. A. P. Hill's position south of Ox Ford, N. Anna River, Hanover Co. VA". Both were acquired directly from the family of the digger who hunted Civil War trails, campsites, and battle sites throughout central Virginia and adjacent states for several decades. Included in the additional images of these buckles are images of the digger's index cards indicating, in most cases, the relic's identification, assessment of condition, recovery date & location, and other general information. In cases where there are discrepancies between the digger's description and Virginia Relic's description, Virginia Relic's description shall be deemed correct. Both buckles are nicely displayed in a glass top case which will be included. The rear of both plates are marked with the diggers inventory number in black ink on what is believed to be "white out" which corresponds with the number found on the label. The glass top display case and digger's labels are included. The display case measures approximately 6-1/4 x 8-1/4 x 3/4 inches. These buckles will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
