US Belt Buckle Marked "W. H. SMITH BROOKLYN"

SOLD

This non-excavated US belt buckle is in very good condition and is clearly stamped with its manufacturer's stamp of "W. H. SMITH / BROOKLYN". Its face, with its aging brassy patina and minor period dings, displays the big bold raised letters "US" which are correct for the Smith made belt and cartridge box plates. The rear still has all three attachment hooks which are securely in place. Looking closely at the construction of the tops of the two puppy paw studs and the belt hook, one can see the actual hand tool work to shape these parts. The rear solder is complete and every letter of the maker stamp is visible. There is a slight downward curl in the plate at the "U" end from, what I believe to be, period use. This Smith marked US belt plate will be an excellent addition to any Civil War buckle or general relic collection.
