US Cartridge Box Plate Marked "J. I. PITTMAN"

SOLD

Item: US Cartridge Box Plate Marked "J. I. PITTMAN"
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass, solder fill, and iron wire attachment loops.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. Its near perfect brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a very pleasing shiny brass patina. The rear has a complete complement of solder with both loops complete and straight-up. The manufacturer's stamp of "J. I. PITTMAN" is present, with all but "TTM" clear and distinct. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Comments:  The "J. I. PITTMAN" mark is a particularly difficult mark to find on a plate and, if you need a plate for a cartridge box, especially a box manufactured by "J. I. PITTMAN", then this plate could be a good fit. The distance between the two loops measures exactly 66 mm or 2-5/8 inches. This marked cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Approximate size: 56 x 88 mm. (66 mm or 2-5/8 inches - distance between loops)
