Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron attachment loops.
Condition: Very good, excavated. Its brass front, with raised letters "US", has a very nice rich brown patina. There is an approximate one inch dent in the rim under the "U" and also a small break in the rim just above the "U". Neither of these areas display any bright brass. The rear has a near complete complement of solder with moderate surface pitting. Both loops are present and complete with one slightly bent. It has no cracks or repairs.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA
Approximate size: 56 x 87 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
