US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with the tall raised letters "US", has a very nice dusty brown patina with no cracks or breaks. The rear has nearly all of its solder with minor loss in areas of the rim and areas of surface flaking. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present. The plate has no repairs.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA area.
Approximate size: 57 x 87 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
