US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction:
 Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition:
 Good, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a very nice yellow soil encrusted brown patina with no cracks or breaks. The rear has most of its solder with minor loss in areas of the rim and areas of surface flaking. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present. The plate has no repairs. 
Recovered:
 In the area of Arthur's Swamp, Dinwiddie County, VA.
Approximate size:
 56 x 88 mm.
Comments:
 This relic was acquired directly from the digger, Robert Braswell, Jr. of Gaston, NC., who recovered many fine relics from both North Carolina and Virginia over several decades. Learn more about Robert and his relic detecting by clicking on his name above. This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
