Item: War of 1861 Identification Disk - Cornelius W Chamberlin
Use: Identification
Approximate size: 1 inch diameter.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Disk is loaded with gilt with minor ground action. No cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs. On the obverse in raised lettering is: "WAR OF 1861" / "UNITED STATES" with a raised eagle clutching an olive branch in its right talons and three arrows in its left.  On the reverse is stamped:

"C. W. CHAMBERLIN
CO B / 10TH REG
NHV / NASHUA"

Soldier Record:

  • Born in 1833 in Canada
  • Residence Nashua NH; 28 years old.
  • Enlisted on 4/30/1861 as a Private.
  • On 5/3/1861 he mustered into "F" Co. NH 1st Infantry
  • He was Mustered Out on 8/9/1861 at Concord, NH
  • On 8/25/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. NH 10th Infantry
  • Promoted to Corpl 4/1/1863
  • Wounded 10/1/1864 Fort Harrison, VA
  • He was discharged for disability on 1/16/1865
  • Member of GAR Post # 185 (Ladd & Whitney) in Lowell, MA
  • After the War he lived in Lowell, MA

Recovered: Lovettsville, VA
