Comments: According to "Historic American Spurs" by Howard Crouch, "About ten percent of those model 1859 spurs will be of this variety, having a cast-in groove on the inner heel band. This was done to both strengthen and lighten the spur." This pair Federal spurs will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War spur, cavalry, or general relic collection.
