Item: Federal 12-Pounder Shell with Visible Iron Underplug - Camp Bartow, WV
Gun: 12-pounder smoothbore, 4.62" caliber.
Construction: Cast iron.
Approximate size: Weight: 8 pounds. Diameter: 4.48 inches.
Condition: Very good, excavated, stable. The iron surface is smooth with minor pitting a few areas of old surface flaking which is now stable. A mold seam is visible along most of its equator as seen in the additional images. Printed on the shell in old faded white lettering is "CAMP BARTOW / 1969". Its Bormann fuze is no longer present. The empty shell has been deactivated and there are no repairs.
Recovered: Camp Bartow, WV.
Comments: This Federal 12-pounder shell with visible iron underplug will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
