Item: Excavated Socket Bayonet For Austrian Lorenze Rifle
Construction: Iron
Approximate size: 21.5 inches
Condition: Fair, excavated. Much of the surface iron "build-up" that occurs over time while in the elements, has flaked away leaving a remarkably sturdy relic. While most of the four edges are present, there are areas missing due to ground action. The locking ring is no longer present and the tip is slightly bent. At some point in time it was clear coated but nearly all of it has flaked away. There are no repairs.
Recovered: Garysburg, NC
Comments: This relic was acquired directly from the digger, Robert Braswell, Jr. of Gaston, NC, who recovered many fine relics from both North Carolina and Virginia over several decades.
