Item: US Model 1855 Socket Bayonet - .58 Caliber
Construction: Iron
Condition: Excellent, excavated, solid shape. Stamped into the flat of the blade near the neck are the letters "US". Its locking ring with screw, are present and fixed in place. The socket is in good order and still nicely rounded. It has been treated with electrolysis and lightly clear coated for preservation purposes. There are no breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Chesterfield County, VA.
Approximate size: 21-inch overall length; 3-inch socket length.

Comments: This solid bayonet was also in use with the US model 1861 & 1863 rifle/musket. It was acquired directly from the Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bayonet, firearm, or general relic collection.
