This excavated bullet is securely lodged within a large chunk of wood which was recovered from a Civil War site in the Richmond, VA area. The bullet has a grey-white patina and appears to be .58 caliber in size with rings and a cone cavity. The wood is solid and, interestingly, the digger carefully hollowed out a hole from one side of the wood section in order to examine the bullets base. The wood section measures approximately 2-1/8 x 9 x 1-3/8 inches.
