Comments: Clearly an early battlefield pick-up, this axe was acquired from the family of the gentleman that collected it many decades ago. An old, typed letter addressed to the collector with the axe's specific recovery information will be included and is included in the additional images. While the names of the sender and collector have been obscured, the original letter, with no redactions, will be included. This axe will be an excellent addition to any Civil War relic collection.
