Comments:  Axes and hatchets were a necessary and regularly used tool for every day soldier life for clearing, building, gathering firewood, etc...Interestingly, the engagement at Cumberland Church is considered to be the last battle victory for the Confederacy prior to Lee's surrender at Appomattox. This excavated example was acquired directly form the local Virginia digger and it will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War campsite or general relic collection.
