Carbine Sling Buckle Belt End Tip

SOLD

This Federal carbine sling belt end tip is constructed of brass and, according to the digger's typed label, it was recovered at the North Anna River in December of 1994. It is in excellent condition with its uncleaned chocolate brown surface patina. All four belt attachment posts with washers are present with one still retaining a piece of leather. It measures approximately 1 x 2-3/8 inches and has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.

Reference: Examples of similar carbine belt end tips are pictured and described in the following reference books:

  • "Civil War Artifacts" by Howard Crouch, page 193, item 3.
  • "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" by Stanley S. Phillip, page 22, item 5.

See above pages in additional images.

This relic was acquired directly from the family of E. V. Smith. Mr. Smith, a lifelong Virginia relic hunter, thoughtfully recorded the tip's year and location of recovery. The digger's label will be included. It will be an excellent relic to add any excavated Civil War campsite or general relic collection. Perhaps you already have a carbine sling buckle that needs a tip?
