This excavated carved .54 caliber three-ring bullet is an excellent example of campsite life of the Civil War soldier. Every now and then, bullets are recovered with whittle marks or, in rare instances, intricate carvings, hand-crafted by soldiers using their pocket-knives just to pass the time. In this case the bullet's rings were carved away. Bullets were often carved into game pieces and perhaps this is one. It is excellent condition with no surface chips. It has an overall waxy surface with a tan-white patina and measures approximately .534 x .983 inches. It weighs 399 grains. This fine example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
