Camp Carved Bullet

SOLD

This excavated camp carved bullet was acquired directly from the digger who recovered it decades ago in an area occupied by the 35th Georgia Camp French in Evansport, VA during the winter of 1861-1862. Occasionally bullets are recovered with whittle marks or, in rare instances, intricate carvings, hand-crafted by soldiers using their pocket knives just to pass the time. This top half of what is believed to be a .58 caliber bullet has a very pleasing white patina. The digger believes the bullet was carved into a chess piece, specifically a Bishop. It is notched at the tip and on two sides, with four notches on the bottom. It measures approximately .571 x .765 inches and will be an excellent addition to any excavated carved Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
