Camp Carved Bullet - Smiling Serpent

SOLD

This excavated camp carved bullet was recovered from a campsite in an area occupied by the 47th Virginia Infantry in Evansport, VA and was acquired directly from the Virginia relic digger. Occasionally bullets are recovered with whittle marks or, in rare instances, intricate carvings, hand-crafted by soldiers using their pocket knives just to pass the time. This top half portion of a bullet has a very pleasing smooth waxy tan-white patina. The slice from its tip slanting downwards (its mouth), along with the two indentions near the tip on one side (its snout), creates what appears to be a smiling creature, perhaps a snake or fish head. Whatever creature this was intended to be, it's smiling. It measures approximately .541 x .645 inches and will be an excellent addition to any excavated carved Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
