Item: Confederate 3.5-Inch "Long Pattern" Read-Parrott Case-Shot with Star Cavity
Gun: 3.5-inch Blakley rifle.
Construction: Cast iron.
Fuzing: Copper fuze adaptor for paper time fuze. (not recovered, see Comments section below)
Approximate size: Weight: 10.4 pounds. Diameter: 3.38 inches.
Condition: Good, excavated. Recovered in two sections, its exterior surface has moderate to heavy pitting. Its original copper time fuze adaptor is no longer present however the copper ring sabot is fully intact and in very good shape. The interiors of both sections contain remnants of its sulfur matrix material affixed to the interior walls. Other than being rinsed off, it is still in its "as dug" condition and with no repairs.
Recovered: Sailor's Creek, VA area.

See above pages in the additional images.
Comments: The fuze adaptor pictured with the shell is not included but is available for purchase. It's in very good condition, fits quite well and will actually screw into the shell if the two sections are positioned just right. Just let me know if you want to include it with the purchase of the case-shot and I will respond with a total for both.
This Read-Parrott case-shot will be an excellent educational tool or display item. It was acquired directly from the family of the husband-and-wife digging team and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
