Item: Confederate .58 Caliber "Raleigh" Pattern Bullet (aka. Garibaldi) - Rare Size
Condition: Excellent, excavated, unfired. The bullet has a grey-white surface patina, a visible mold seam and a round skirt. Basically, a perfect drop with no repairs. 
Recovered: North Carolina campsite in Dumfries, VA by Virginia relic hunter Brigadier General Jack Mountcastle
Approximate size: .583-inch diameter, 1.03-inch length, 390 grains weight.

Comments:  These bullets were manufactured in .54, .58, & 69 caliber with the .58 caliber the rarest to recover. According to the above-mentioned reference book, "Round Ball to Rimfire, Part Four", by Dean Thomas, these bullets were "made at the N.C. Institute for the Deaf & Dumb and the Blind". This bullet will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
