Item: Confederate Infantry Coat Button - Narrow Block "I"
Backmark: Blank with depressed channel.
Design: Roman "I" on a plain field.
Construction: Low-medium convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Fair, excavated, secure shank present. Its copper front has been pushed nearly flat and has a pleasing copperish-brown patina. There is old damage with a hairline fracture below the lower serif of the "I" however, this area is still solid. The tin rear is rusty but stable and solid. No cracks, breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown.

Comments: The button was acquired directly from the family of a local Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
