Backmark: "E.M.L & C. RICHMOND. VA." rmdc
Design: Raised Roman letter "I" on a plain field.
Construction: Medium convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank missing. Reddish-brown patina with greenish-tan colored surface soil residue nicely highlighting the letter "I" and rim. The rear backmark is crystal clear. A portion of possibly the shank can be heard inside the button with gentle movement. No pushes, cracks or repairs.
Recovered: Henrico County, VA.

Comments: These Richmond back marked buttons are among my favorites, and this example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
