Confederate One Dollar Note - Lucy Pickens - 1862

This original Confederate States One Dollar note is in fair condition and was the first $1 note authorized by the Confederate Congress. The female portrait is that of Lucy Petway Holcombe Pickens, the wife of the governor of South Carolina. Printed on the note is: "Six Months after the Ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and the United States / THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA / Will pay ONE DOLLAR to Bearer / No 120 / Richmond. June 2. 1862. / Fundable in eight percent stock or Confederate bonds / Receivable in payment of all dues except export duties. / ONE / Third series. / (signature) for Register / (signature) for Treasurer". The 150+ year old creased paper is soft, discolored, has small holes and tiny tears along the top and bottom edges that were reinforced years ago with paper tape. It measures approximately 2-11/16 x 6-1/8 inches. This note will come in a clear acid free envelope for preservation and display, and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War currency or general relic collection. Ref. Criswell T-44.
