Item: Confederate Western Theatre Puff "I" Infantry Button

Construction: Medium convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, shank missing. Likely a copper front that now has a very pleasing chocolate brown patina with no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs. The tin rear is rusty but in solid condition.
Recovered: Unknown

Comments: These handsome buttons are referred to as "puff I's" due to the fact that the raised letter "I" is surrounded by a depressed region directly next to the border, gives the front of the button a "puffed out" appearance. This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
