Item: Confederate Script Infantry Coat Button - Small Script "I"
Backmark: Blank with depressed channel.
Design: Small old English "I" on a plain field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank present. Smooth surface with rich brown patina and hints of gilt in the area of the letter "I". Ample gilt is present within the rear channel. One end of the wire shank has separated from the rear and, while still secure, is slightly loose. No pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown.

Comments: The button was acquired directly from the family of a local Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
