Comments: According to Howard Crouch author of "Historic American Spurs", on page 53, this particular type of spur is often found broken. Also, Bob Baird, author of "Confederate, US, and Other Civil War Used Spurs" had an opportunity to personally inspect this spur confirming its identification as well as the field repair. The spur is from the collection of Glenn Trimmer. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War spur, cavalry or general relic collection.
