Item: Confederate States of America "C.S.A." Belt Buckle
Construction: Sand cast brass with raised letters "C.S.A.".
Condition: Good, solid, excavated. The plate has a mixed brown-green patina. The body of the plate has slight to moderate inward bending with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The rear retains all three belt attachment hooks which are bent mostly flush to the rear. Approximately fifty percent of one hook is missing.
Recovered: Fredericksburg, VA area.
Approximate size: 48 x 69 mm.
Comments: CSA buckles are not often recovered. A similar example of this style plate is found in Steve E. Mullinax's book "Confederate Belt Buckles and Plates", 1st edition, on page 44 as plate 072 and also in the "Expanded Edition" of the same book on page 56 as plate 090. This Confederate belt buckle will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
