Eagle Plate - Carved "Treble Clef"

SOLD

Item: Excavated US Eagle Plate - Carved "Treble Clef"
Construction:
Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron wire attachment loops.
Condition:
Good, excavated. Its brass face has an olive green patina moderately coated with a layer of encrusted yellow soil. It displays a detailed eagle, clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. There are two rust bumps, one on the eagle's breast and another below the eagle's right talon. The rear solder is nearly complete with some surface flaking. One of the two iron attachment loops is present, heavily rusted, and complete. Carved into the rear solder is believed to be a "treble clef" musical symbol. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs, or major bends.
Recovered:
 Hatcher's Run, Dinwiddie, VA
Approximate diameter:
  63 mm.
Comments:
The "treble clef" is certainly a unique carving and perhaps put there by a soldier missing his love of music. This relic was acquired directly from the digger, Robert Braswell, Jr. of Gaston, NC., who recovered many fine relics from both North Carolina and Virginia over several decades. Learn more about Robert and his relic detecting by clicking on his name above. This eagle plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
