Backmark: " * SCOVILL MF'G & CO * / WATERBURY." dm (small letters)
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 25 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present bent to back. The front has ample gilt and a mild center push. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Fredericksburg, VA area.
Reference: Tice: Unlisted (backmark listed on page 35 #5) Albert: Unlisted
Comments: According to "American Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks and Dates 2001 Enlarged Edition" by William F. McGuinn and Bruce S. Bazelon, page 112, the backmark(var.) indicates that the button dates to 1850 -1870. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated general relic collection.
