Comments: This is one of the largest artillery shells used during the American Civil War and was very likely fired from a Federal gun boat moored in the James River or one of its tributaries. It was recovered by the late Glenn Trimmer of Virginia. Over the decades of relic hunting Glenn maintained two journals listing and, often describing in detail, information regarding the relic's recovery. This relic is listed in his second journal detailing its recovery and other items he found on that hunt. Also included are several images (See additional images for these pages). Because the journal pages may contain exact recovery locations and other personal information, some of the information has been removed. Complete unredacted journal page copies for this relic will be included with its purchase. Read more about Glenn Trimmer and his relic hunting by clicking this link: Glenn Trimmer Collection.
This massive shell will display very nicely in any den, family room, or office and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
