Its "single slotted" Bormann time-fuze is present and, while marred, it is un-punched. One or two hash-marks are still visible as seen in the additional images. Directly opposite the fuse on the other side of the shell are two drill holes where it was deactivated. There are no repairs and is ready for display. See above page in the additional images.
Comments: According to the artillery reference book "Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War", by Dickey and George, "After April 1862, almost every Federal 12-pounder smoothbore shell fired had a Bormann fuze in it, making this the "most common" explosive shell of the War". This 12-pounder case-shot with Bormann time fuze will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
