Item: Federal 2.9-Inch Read-Parrott Shell
Cannon: 10-pounder Parrott rifle, 2.9-inch caliber.
Approximate size: 2.85-inch diameter; 8-5/8-inch length; 9 pounds weight.
Fuzing: Zinc fuze adaptor for paper time fuze.
Sabot: Pre-rifled wrought iron tapered ring.
Condition: Very good, excavated. The shell's iron is stable, with a minimally pitted surface. The fuze adaptor is present with partial chipping. The sabot is present. It has been deactivated and is ready for display. There are no repairs.
Recovered: Seven Days Battles area.
Comments: This Read-Parrott shell will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
