Item: Federal 3-Inch Dyer Shell - Reassembled
Gun: 3-inch wrought iron (ordnance) rifle.
Fuzing: Dyer time fuze adaptor.
Construction: Cast iron.
Approximate size: Weight: 6.6 pounds. Diameter: 2.94 inches, Length: 7-1/2 inches.
Condition: Reassembled, excavated. Eleven fragments of the original shell are connected with metal rods. There is slight movement of the individual fragments, but nothing major. The exterior surfaces of the fragments are smooth and minimally pitted. Both fuze and lead cup sabot are no longer present. Each fragment was treated with electrolysis.

Comments: This reassembled Federal 3-inch Dyer shell will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
