Federal 3-Inch Schenkl Shell

Item: Federal 3-Inch Schenkl Shell
Gun: 3-inch ordnance rifle.
Fuzing: Brass Schenkl percussion fuze.
Construction: Cast iron.
Approximate size: Weight: 7.2 pounds; Diameter: 2.94 inches; Length: 8-3/4 inches.  
Condition: Very good, excavated, deactivated. The iron is stable, and the shell's surface has a minimal amount of pitting and build-up. There is a very light layer of clear coating present. The fuze is missing, and its papier-mâché sleeve sabot is no longer present as is typical for excavated examples. No repairs and ready for display.  
Recovered: Greenbriar County, WV
