Item: Federal Carbine Sling Buckle
Construction: Cast brass with middle bar and rotating tongues.
Use: Fastened the cavalryman's leather sling which carried a carbine.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Very pleasing brown patina with areas of dull brass showing through on the cross bar and tangs. The frame and cross bar are solid with a minor wave likely from period use. Both original rotating belt attachment tongues are present, secure to the bar and freely rotate. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Wilderness, VA area.
Approximate size: 51 x 83 mm.
