Item: Federal Dragoon Coat Button - 23mm size
Backmark: ". HORSTMANN & ALLIEN . NY"
Design: Spread-wing eagle with letter "D" in shield.
Construction: High convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure shank present. This solid button has ample gilt over a brown patina. The rear backmark is clear. There are no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.

Reference: Tice: DR215A Albert: DR 4
Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice on page 127, regarding this particular classification (DR215A) of buttons: "Convex buttons of this type were made during the 1840's until about 1861". This Federal Dragoon coat button will be an excellent example addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
