Federal "Jeff Davis" Hat Plate

Item: Federal "Jeff Davis" Hat Plate
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass.
Condition:
 Good, excavated. The brass has developed into a brown patina. The body of the plate is slightly convex. A small portion of the olive branch held in the eagle's left talons is missing There are a couple of hairline fractures and pinholes primarily visible if held up to a light. A portion of one of the attachment wires is present. Otherwise, the plate is solid with no repairs. 
Approximate size:
 1-13/16 x 2-1/2 inches.
Recovered: Chesterfield County, VA.
