Item: Post-Civil War Federal Sword Belt Plate, Regulation 1874
Construction: Gilt cast brass with integral eagle motif and applied tongue and belt loop bar.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. The plate has a nice body curve with a mellow brass patina. The front, with its stippled background, shows a detailed eagle clutching arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right, along with raised rays and thirteen stars above the eagle. Both tongue and belt attachment bar are present. There are no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 49 x 75 mm.
Comments: This sword belt plate will be an excellent addition to any post-Civil War plate or general relic collection.
